What Comeback stores
Comeback is a math check-in and practice tool that shows teachers which skills and mistakes each student needs to work on. This page lists everything it keeps, in plain language.
About students
Comeback stores only:
- the student ID or first name the student types (the teacher chooses which one the class uses);
- which class they joined;
- each answer they chose and whether it was right, on the check-in and in any practice the teacher allows (for a typed answer, the number they typed; for a graph, the points they placed);
- when they started, answered each question and finished;
- the readiness estimate Comeback works out from their check-in answers.
Comeback does not ask for or store a student's email, last name, birthdate, password, photo or location. There are no student accounts. Comeback never uses the camera or microphone.
On the student's Chromebook, the browser keeps a random code so a refresh returns to the same question, for up to 12 hours or until the student starts a new test. It also remembers the light or dark setting.
About teachers
- the teacher's school email, used to send 6-digit sign-in codes;
- the classes they create, with their names and settings.
On the teacher's computer, the browser keeps them signed in until they sign out.
Who can see it
- A teacher sees results, check-in and practice, for their own classes only.
- Students never see other students' results, and never see their own readiness estimate. If the teacher turns it on, a student sees what they did well on the check-in. In practice, a student sees whether each answer was right and how to solve it.
- Comeback's administrators see all data, to check the questions and how well the readiness estimate works.
What Comeback doesn't do
- No ads, no tracking, no analytics.
- No selling or sharing of data.
- No outside fonts or scripts: these pages load only from Comeback's own site and its database.
Services that handle the data
- Supabase: the database and teacher sign-in, in a United States data center.
- Cloudflare: delivers these web pages.
- Resend: sends teacher sign-in emails (teachers' email addresses only).
Like any website, these services keep short-lived technical logs of requests (such as the time and network address) for security.
Deleting data
- A teacher can delete a class at any time. That permanently erases every answer and estimate in it, including practice.
- A school or district can ask Comeback to delete any class.
- Otherwise, data is deleted on the schedule in the school's or district's data privacy agreement.
About the results
Comeback works out the readiness estimate from the check-in answers. It is Comeback's own estimate, not an official test score or prediction.
Questions
Students and families: ask your teacher or school. Schools can reach Comeback using the contact details in the district's data privacy agreement.
